Andrew_C Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 You can get cable converters to convert from figure 8 to kettle etc. From IEC to Telefunken* is allowed, the opposite isn't. If you go Tele to IEC, there is no earthing, this is "A BAD THING". *For clarity - always specify in the direction of current flow.
mikeprice Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Just wondering - can you convert from the clover leaf to more common squarer power leads? and for that matter - is there a difference - other than shape if I had a fiver for every time I have had to go back for a different power lead - etc etc
3s-gtech Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 You can convert - but you must ensure that if the device has an earth pin, that it has an earth feed to it. So you can’t convert from a IEC C7 (figure 8)with mains plug to a device with an IEC C14 (like a PC PSU) or C6 (Cloverleaf) inlet. You can buy the converters, but using them in this way is unsafe.
