Asset management for IT equipment

Hi all, any suggestions on what I can use to keep track of laptops, projectors etc.. I looked into using MS TEAMS and Sharepoint. We also have Frog.

Excel? Depends on what your requirements are. Do you have a helpdesk as that might have an asset tracking bit.

 

Spiceworks can scan your network and give you a list, which is quite useful but I'm not a fan. There are open source systems like GLPI that can do this via a web interface, but can be a bit full on and overwhelming, for example allowing you to log the wall socket, patch panel and switch port that a device plugs into.

It scans network automatically and adds laptops, printers, pcs in the list. And then you can add additional hardware like projectors manually

Easier and much useful than excel

Plus it has software audit

At the moment I am migrating from it all in a Google sheet to Snipe-IT.

 

Snipe-IT seems to work really well, all I would say is run it from an *nix server, as I made the mistake of setting it up through IIS, and that can be a pain, where for most Debian flavour of Linux (Ubuntu, mint etc) they have an install script which makes the process a lot easier.

I use an Excel spreadsheet. Nice and simple. Easy to filter by type of asset etc. Can be run in the cloud via O365.
