SSD drive Spacers for replacing SSD Drives

Hi All,

 

Anybody have a decent supplier or ideas of where to get SSD drives spacers i.e. the bit of plastic for 7mm to 9.5mm that fits on top, when upgrading computers with an SSD. We have some laptops that just don't fit the drive properly.

 

We used to have the Kingston 240GB SSD drives and they came with a spacer included. The newer versions don't seem to include it however.

 

Can't really get them off eBay due to finance rules, so struggling to find a proper supplier.

But personally, would consider talking to your DT department about getting 2.5mm plastic sheets is probably gonna be cheaper overall if you want a lot

I would if we had a D&T department any more. They got rid of it before I started

 

I can bodge it with a bit of foam tape but want it doing properly.

What about sticky foam pads?

 

We have used them in the past.

sticky foam pads, the luxury! I put them in loose or find a single hole (usually a grill) and screw 1 in.

Majority of our SSD's are one screw jobs. Didnt have the right drive caddies for one of our servers too so up until this summer it lasted 2 years with SSD's manually plugged in held up with blutak.

I ran out of them in the middle of a project so had to use duck tape. Those PCs have been in use for approx 3 years no problems

tape, velcro, screwed in 1 side. They aren't heavy, and means that when it comes to decom time, it's quicker to get them out too.

 

I always feel the £3 or 4 for a bracket is a bit overkill, unless the machine itself is going to be being moved around a lot. With SSDs I always suggest flat against the motherboard tray, that way if someone pushes something through the front etc, it doesn't add extra pressure, and is less surface area for dust/crud build up
