Koldov Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 As per the title, I have finally got around to my last piece of spinning rust on the Domain and want to change it to an SSD. Looking for something free and simple if possible, we are a small school and don't do any cloning/wds/mdt/sscm so looking for something point and click GUI wise rather than anything heavy on command line interface. Needs to take into consideration that its a move to an SSD and take care of any extra bits that may entail. Hopefully quick too (I did think about a full reinstall but it would have a fair bit of software and updates to go through - admittedly quicker on SSD but...), as we have people using it most of the day and we're fully open on Wednesday...
kjadams Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 I used Sea Tools from seagate as that was the make of one of the drives in the cloning process. Only took about 10 minutes to clone, took longer to physically swap the drives over.
3s-gtech Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 Acronis TrueImage is what I used when I was doing this (on the machines that would have been a lot of work to re-image. Not free, but what a cracking piece of software. Older versions will struggle if your machines use UEFI.

mrcrazy04 Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I’ve used Clonezilla, which is free and comes as a LiveCD. The GUI is text based (sort of DOS style), but I used it to clone my personal Windows 10 laptop when I upgraded the SSD in it with no issues. The only thing to be aware of is making sure you’ve got the disks the correct way round (so you don’t copy the blank one into the old one) and that the new disk is the same size or slightly larger. If you’ve got several to do, a dedicated cloner like this might be a better option, as it’s completely standalone: https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-SATA-Drive-Duplicator-Eraser/dp/B00G6TG5YE/ref=sr_1_8?crid=KO73WQNFPY58&keywords=drive+cloner&qid=1567491551&s=gateway&sprefix=Drive+cl%2Caps%2C188&sr=8-8
jimmyavr Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Mini Tool Partition Wizard, I used this recently for my home desktop, transferred 90gb from OS HDD to SSD in about 10-15 mins, repaired the MBR, set the SSD as first boot....so straight forward, doesn ot require any USB's etc either.
robyholmes Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 We used this before we got our MDT & Apps deployment got sorted to allow us to simply re-install quicker than we could migrate. https://www.disk-partition.com/
ComboSmith Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Clonezilla is good, if the SSD is Samsung their clone tool is very good also
