Is anyone using Schoolsbroadband and Netsweeper with a connection >100Mbps able to test a file download please?

--

Short Story....

After 6 months of Openreach playing around, finally get 200 / 1000 FTTP sorted in July.

Since then I noticed that a single file download over port 80 will max download at about 50Mbps (6.2 MB/s). (Speedtests etc.. come back with expected results)

After sending them many tests results over the past 8 weeks (and frankly getting the feeling they didn't believe me), they finally arranged some iperf testing to their servers and confirmed the results for themselves.

I am waiting for a "fix" - but I am not convinced they know what is causing it.

Anyway, the two files are below - the port 80 file will never exceed 50Mbps (6.2 MB/s) for me, but the port 8080 with max 200Mbps (22.6 MB/s).

Thank you.

Aye, just to let you know I get above 6.2MB on a home connection so deffo would say it's something internal/proxy related etc :p

On your speed tests, did you try with a single connection speed rather than multiple? For example on https://www.speedtest.net/ there's a button at the bottom that changes multi connection to single, as obviously if it's limiting per connection upstream you'd get two different results

Not that I like to help a competitor or anything, but it's fairly common in these situations for MSPs to put in a cap on the amount of bandwidth a single connection (as in, one file download) can use, to prevent it swamping others. It would be concerning if you ran this across multiple machines and couldn't get more than a cumulative 50Mbit/s.

I can get a cumulative bandwidth greater than 50Mbit/s.

They insist there is no bandwidth cap on a single connection (one of the reasons to get others to test to see if they get similar results).

Hi all,

Just to clarify things. We do absolutely no traffic management and throttling of connections on anything in our network. We've actually got oodles of spare capacity having doubled the amount of netsweeper servers over the last month.

Weve plenty of customers on full 1Gbit leased lines that constantly get thr full 1Gbit.

I should also point out that over the last month our network is really quiet due to summer holidays so I can assure you @andy_b weve definitley not purposefully throttled you.

However that doesnt mean you, we or the carrier providing the underlying circuit doesnt have an issue.

On a handful of occasions I've seen capacity issues with the underlying carrier which miraculously fix themselves once we apply a lot of pressure but aren't normally quick fixes. That said I've not seen one which limits port 80 traffic before.

We will continue to look into it for you. @RobMason built our netsweeper platform so if theres an issue there he will find it.

Thanks for your patience. We can out the solution here once we find out where the issue is.

Did this get sorted ? 2 sites tested and both are between 60mb to 80mb on 200mb connection, server bypassing filtering gets full speed

As per the above from @andy_b any customers with this issue will now be resolved, we have passed information on this setting change to Netsweeper who are looking at making it a default setting in future releases.

Thanks,
