Recommend an USB-C ethernet/usb hub with pass-through power and no bad traffic?

Is anyone using an USB-C to ethernet/USB/HDMI hub with pass-through power that plays nicely when the laptop is disconnected?

 

I've spotted a few threads on Reddit (such as

) that implies many are likely to lead to error-disabled ports because the ethernet port stays "live" due to the pass-through power when the laptop is disconnected.

Been using the lenovo equivalent for a while. If we need to connect to HDMI we use an adapter cable. Anything we have above 1080p has displayport anyway.

 

It seems that all the ones that work well come with their own power supply - which is also great for keeping preventing the laptop running out of power.

We use the Dell WD15 docks with no problems disconnecting / reconnecting under Win10. 5 x USB, Power, audio, headset, ethernet, VGA, HDMI and miniDP. I think the ports are disabled when the laptop is disconnected as my USB desk fan turns off???

Do they play nicely with non-Windows laptops? I'm aware the Startech dock doesn't officially support anything other than Windows, but Amazon reviews imply it works.

I don't know sorry, don't have a USB-C/TB3 MacBook to test with.

1+ for the Dell WD15, we have been using 30 of them for over 1 year with no problems. Also work with non Dell devices as we have connected SurfaceBook2 and SurfaceGo to them. Just installing 100 more over the summer into all the classrooms.

We have a mix of docks here from Dell, HP, Kensington, but I now only go for the startech and not had any issues with it at all. Reliable, plug and play and no issues at all with any machine thrown at it, including the Fedora based laptop a visitor to the CEO had.

 

We stopped buying the dell docks, partly down to price, but also because a couple of our HP laptops really didn't like them

 

In fact, there is only 1 things I do not like regarding the Startech one previously mentioned. The packaging. Both the outer box and the protection for the device were both non recyclable.

We are installing in all our classrooms HP universal USB-C docks, they seem decent enough. People who all ready have USB-C docks how do they hold up? Am slightly worried teachers will break either the lead or the port on the HP laptops.

 

They work with some of our Dell's that have USB-C and come with a normal usb converter so can be connected to non usb C ports.
