Hi all

I have a dell tablet ( XPS 18) which is not charging. When I plugged in the charger to the tablet says "plugged in but not charging" I have tried the a cradle and still no charge. Well I say no charge, it’s charging very, very, very slowly; almost five days to get 40% charge. I found a discussion thread reporting that the LED Screen had a part to play in the problem, but I am not sure. Any Idea?

Nope I haven't tried the diagnostics test. I will give that a go. I am not sure if the jack has any damage, schools and all who knows what life it has led.

We often get similar messages when the small plastic moulding that covers the charging jack comes away and the laptop then won't charge. Might be worth a look.

Alas the plot thickens. To try and cut a long story short. The tablet is being used as an EyeGaze device for SEN children. The Tablet has an amplifier stuck to the back. The tablet will not fit in the cradle with the amplifier attached to the back; so I have removed the back (shock warning call the health and safety department). I tried it in the cradle with the supplied power adapter, no joy. Now I have tried it with the original power adapter supplied with the tablet, and low and behold charging. technology! I will have to discuss with the staff member responsible for Eyegazes to see were we go from here.
