timbo343 Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Our place have decided to run more Photography lessons however they have asked us to look for an alternative to photoshop with the same look and feel as photoshop. The art teacher so far has come up with a list of software alternatives: - Snapseed - Ibispaint - Kaleidacam - Photomash - PS Mix - Photoshop Express - GIMP - Teacher not particually a fan of this! - Affinity Photo - Polarr - Pixlr / Pixlrexpress.com - Photopea - Krita - Photoshop CS2 (was a free version but has been pulled) - Serif - Firealapaca The software needs to be able to layers and blend layers together. They want to stay away from Paint and Paint.net. Does anyone have any other recommendations of free photoshop alternative applications. Something that is free to download and use would be great so students can use it at home too.
NickoTheSicko Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 We use Gimp at the school i work at and both staff and students love it. I find it really easily to use and pretty much the same as Photoshop.

They would rather teach with software that looked like Photoshop as that is what they are used to though i am trying to get them to look at GIMP.

I wish I could get Photoshop to look and behave like GIMP - I have both.

I wish I could get Photoshop to look and behave like GIMP - I have both. I think they might consider GIMP with a Photoshop skin, however now just need to work out how to get .gimp-2.8 folder to all users as they use Madatory Profiles. - - - Updated - - - Thank you all for the comments. GIMP with a re-skin of photoshop might be the best way or Photopea might work well too.

They either need to stump up the cash then for Photoshop, or get used to - god forbid - teaching themselves how to use another piece of software. Who do they think teaches us the differences in versions and software? GIMP is the best and most supported solution you have listed did teacher mention why they didn't like it? why they didn't like it? Because it's not Photoshop! We all know what it's like with teachers even if an icon for something changes and how that means "they can't teach". Affinity Photo seems to be getting more and more exposure for the replacement for Photoshop so +1 for this. I really think from our point oof view that with Adobe CC they've dropped a massive clanger.
