Looking at IT qualifications/certifications for students in a Pupil Referral Unit. What are schools using at the moment.

Whatever you do DON't use Console8/Pet-XI/IC3 Spark stuff. Google them and you'll find out why. Their software is utter crap, shoddy and hardly works. Costs a hell of a lot of £££'s and requires YOU to host their software!

ECDL was always the staple for differently abled kids. Also seems a shame to teach them something they could have easy access to via other mediums though. Depending on their needs prehaps the microsoft office ( MOS) exams if they are confident.

We did ECDL one year. After some initial issues due to lack of planning by the IT Teaching faculty. We had to get a plugin installed (a specific version of JAVA and something from them if I remember right). Enabled popups and a few other things. That was it.

 

What really grinds my gears is these days how can the exam board NOT have software that simulates the different versions of Office? I get fed up of having to bodge and put workarounds in for their software.
