chazzy2501 Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 I'm getting pupils with black screens after login, the mouse is visible and ctrl+alt+del works and they can log out. The win+ctrl+shift+b doesn't fix the issue either... I can move the pupils and the problem doesn't follow them. I'm using eset 7.01 av if that might be an issue and these PCs have the A8 6550d APU (amd graphics.) This is happeningto 4 or 5 pupils a lesson... I'm not sure how to tackle the issue.
DrBeaker Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 I get the same here on some machines - but we're on W10 1709 and don't use Impero.
BOOT Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 I get the same thing when users are over their storage quota. (Because of redirected AppData folder).
Danp Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 We are still seeing this randomly around school for students and pupils, no closer to a fix
richmackie Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 I've seen this quite frequently. We tell the users to press CTRL+ALT+DEL, sign it and log back in again and 99% of the time that fixes the problem. Still haven't got to the bottom of it though.
free780 Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 (edited) We had this on RDS 2016. So the same as LTSC 1607. Traced it to a build up of per user firewall rules. Try clearing them manually or via powershell. You can create a scheduled task to do this automatically. There is a reg key to prevent their creation on 1607/Server 2016. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4467684/windows-10-update-kb4467684 Addresses an issue that slows server performance or causes the server to stop responding because of numerous Windows firewall rules. To enable the changes, add a new registry key “DeleteUserAppContainersOnLogoff” (DWORD) on “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy” using Regedit, and set it to 1 The reg setting won't delete existing rules but prevent new ones. Ideally you want a non merge firewall GPO and just clear any per user firewall rules. Edited June 4, 2019 by free780
Mujja Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Do you have this reg value set to 0? HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\DelayedDesktopSwitchTimeout We added the above to speed up login times, skips the preparing windows screen. Worked OK on our development computers which all have SSDs, but computers with mechanical disk displayed a black screen for a couple of mins like you described. We deleted the reg value which has replaced the black screen with the preparing windows screen and less calls logged to the service desk. 1
chazzy2501 Posted June 12, 2019 Author Posted June 12, 2019 sorry, no follow up but this is happening on our windows 8.1 machines as well with different hardware and obviously from a different image. I'm using ESET 7.0 and 7.1 Antivirus anyone else? (that or our sharp printers) I'm not using roaming profiles, and I'm not relocating appdata. I do have a lot of firewall rules on the older 8.1 but windows 10 is pretty clean with default rules. I've found that if you wait 3 minutes the desktop clears, these are SSD based machines though.
