RabbieBurns Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Seems they have just unbundled my local exchange. The business pro package 24meg down 2.5meg up looks ideal. That uplink speed will be great for my slingbox. Anyone used Be before? Are they any good?
linkazoid Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I'm with them now!!! They're great - unlimited download - no caps on any torrents - full speed all the time. would highly recommend!! :-):):D 1
Edu-IT Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 How much is that connection? I think it's the Be Pro package so it's £22 per month with a £24 connection fee. https://www.bethere.co.uk/broadbandoffice.do
FN-GM Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Not bad, i can only get 1.8 meg here so its pointless me getting it.
Trapper Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I've been with them for a few months, fantastic service. I get 17Mbps down, and 1.5Mbps up. No caps, no traffic shaping. £18UKP pcm. 1

SpuffMonkey Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 How does it work for phone calls - do they still get routed through BT and do you still pay yer line rental to BT?
Edu-IT Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 How does it work for phone calls - do they still get routed through BT and do you still pay yer line rental to BT? Yes. Be simply provide the broadband connection.
RabbieBurns Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 nice to see a positive response. I think i will go for it then. Just need to see if I can somehow get out of my contract with BT Business.
RabbieBurns Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 Also, anyone know what router they give you if you use the multiple static IPs? The 2wire supplied by BT has to be one of the worst Ive used!
tom_newton Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Be will show a speed increase over any 8Meg nominal connection, as it is ADSL2+, for example our 8Meg lines here get ~1.5 real-world, Be is up at 5.7. The router for multiple IPs is the frankly awful speedtouch. Will be replacing it when I get around to it
RabbieBurns Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 Ive got a cisco router + adsl wic ive been meaning to get up and running since xmas... Think ill just buy a adsl2+ wic for it then

The badged speedtouch I got with my O2-branded Be connection about three months ago just died! And it was utter c*ap while it was alive to be honest. Worked OK for a couple of months, then started to lose sync very frequently, and finally carked it over a weekend away, so I came back to a router with only one light on on it. Connection now working much better (as it happens) with a salvaged Netgear DG834GT
Zoom7000 Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 I'm with Be, Unlimited package, getting 15Mbps Down. £18pm. If you sign up via Quidco you can earn £40!
RabbieBurns Posted May 9, 2008 Author Posted May 9, 2008 Thanks, never heard of that quidco thing. Also, does anyone know if I can have the reverse dns set for the static IPs from Be? Cant find anything on their website and Ive emailled them but no reply.
Trapper Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 I haven't actually heard anything from Quidco, and I signed up several months ago
Zoom7000 Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 You might need to submit a ticket telling them about your missing earnings, I know I have had to do this in the past. But hey, it's all good, free money for doing some shopping that you wouldn't have earned anything on anyway!
zag Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 I use BE internet at home, I get 13mbit down and 1.3mbit up for 22 quid a month. It really is the best internet service I have ever used. no caps, no filtering and best of all a static IP address which you can run servers off. It really is impressive.
RabbieBurns Posted May 9, 2008 Author Posted May 9, 2008 MAC address has been requested from BT. Hopefully theyll give me one.. but im only 6 months into a 12 month contract. Might just have to get another line installed in that case.
webman Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Be is enabled on my exchange too and I'm about a mile from it. Will be requesting my MAC from freedom2surf/Tiscali soon
Trapper Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 webman I also moved away from f2s. Far too many take overs, and their customer support which used to be spot on (no queues, spoke to technical competent person) was eroded away. I was offered an uncapped service if I stayed, however I routinely went way over my 50GB pcm limit and they never complained. I believe they haven't actually taken any subscriber to book over that problem. That may change in the future though.

Anyone got any tips how to get out of the contract? Im sure I read somewhere that if they change their T&Cs then it could be possible to leave - anyone know when their introducing Phorm? Think I might just have to get a second phone line put in at this rate.
