TwistedHelixis Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Just un boxed a nice new server, slapped server 2019 standard (GUI), first thing I wanted to do was install all the updates but it says 'some settings are managed by your organization' What is going on?
PotNoodleTech Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Have you actually registered it? You can get that when windows is not activated yet. 1
TwistedHelixis Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 Have you actually registered it? You can get that when windows is not activated yet. Nope. That is my next issue, it will not register. I have the following errors I was really looking forward to server 2019, not so much now. Cheers for your time and help
PotNoodleTech Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Which supplier did you purchase your MAK key from? They should be able to help resolve your issue. If you purchased the key, it should work!!
TwistedHelixis Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 (edited) Which supplier did you purchase your MAK key from? Our Local Authority. I have already contacted them and they are telling me to keep trying :0( EDIT - they said the MS activation server sometimes does not respond and to keep entering the key until it does respond Edited May 1, 2019 by TwistedHelixis
PotNoodleTech Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Our local authority runs the server to - always works first time every time, automatically too!
fiza Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Have you tried using the command line to enter the licence key? To Install key : slmgr.vbs /ipk #####-#####-#####-#####-##### To Activate online : slmgr.vbs /ato 1
TwistedHelixis Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 Have you tried using the command line to enter the licence key? Thanks, i'll try that later :0)
msi_school Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 I have found that entering keys via the cli is much more effective than using the gui, I have no idea why as it is just a reg key but as my first boss used to say sometimes you don't ask the question because within the answer lies madness 1
supportman Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Yep we had the same issue with server 2019, only the CMD worked not using the GUI, very weird but it does work.
2097 Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 I had quite a few 2019 servers that wouldnt activate via GUI, used CMD in the end
TwistedHelixis Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 I still get the message 'some settings are managed by your organization' in the windows update page which is annoying.
Koldov Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 So it hasn't been joined to the Domain, made into any kind of DC, or have any roles installed yet? Have you tried rsop or gpresult just to make sure no GPO's are applying?
TwistedHelixis Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 Not even got as far as adding to domain Both rsop and gpresult give no clues. gpresult r/ lists there are no GPO's applied. One thing I have just noticed is if I click on the warning message it mentions I might be seeing the message if I have joined the insider update program, but this is a fresh install of the OS and I have not signed up to anything.
TwistedHelixis Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 Just checked and I do not even have Windows Insider as an option to turn on or off
Koldov Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Any Antivirus or Server software on there? There does seem to be some Google hits relating to Windows 10 about telemetry? https://www.tenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/8525-remove-winupdate-some-settings-managed-your-organization.html https://superuser.com/questions/947755/some-settings-are-managed-by-your-organization-while-not-on-domain https://www.tekrevue.com/tip/some-settings-are-managed-by-your-organization-windows-10/ Failing that (and I like to get to the solution as much as any tech) it may worth a reinstall of the OS, seeing as how its a fresh install/not Domain joined/not DC etc...
TwistedHelixis Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 Where did you get your install media? Local Authority it may worth a reinstall of the OS Already tried that I have started looking through the links above. one of the Windows 10 fixes is to change Diagnostics from Basic to Full. When I checked, it was already on Full, so I though I would bounce it to Basic and back, but now Full is greyed out. Just tried a reboot but still cant select Full. I will find the answer even if it takes all year :0)
TwistedHelixis Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 Would it be worth me downloading server 2019 directly from MS and starting over again?
djm968 Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Would it be worth me downloading server 2019 directly from MS and starting over again? Definitely be worth a go, the LA may have used their own image to create the media.
TwistedHelixis Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 manged to fix the Diagnostics issue by changing a reg key to do with telemetry. I will keep playing for the moment
djm968 Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Which build version are you using, build 17677 had some of these bugs. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ee09b764-e147-4f7a-a5ec-6fae87c98929/multiple-bugs-on-windows-server-2019-build-17677?forum=WinServerPreview
Koldov Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 (edited) Local Authority Do you have anyway to download a copy from MVLSC? I have started looking through the links above. one of the Windows 10 fixes is to change Diagnostics from Basic to Full. When I checked, it was already on Full, so I though I would bounce it to Basic and back, but now Full is greyed out. Just tried a reboot but still cant select Full. Was that through the GUI? What about local GPO options... https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ee09b764-e147-4f7a-a5ec-6fae87c98929/multiple-bugs-on-windows-server-2019-build-17677?forum=WinServerPreview https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/126836a8-9954-4d7b-a597-1edf85953dad/quot-some-settings-are-managed-by-your-organizationquot-eh-?forum=WindowsInsiderPreview Just out of interest.... Can you actually update...? EDIT: Beaten to it.... but in my defence I had to go and get lunch.... Edited May 10, 2019 by Koldov
