Afternoon All,

 

Does anyone use HP iLO on their ProLiant servers? Is it a paid for product? If so - how much did you pay?

 

Is it worth purchasing?

According to the iLO Licensing Guide (pages 20-23) only the standard edition is free. All of the other editions are paid.

 

Although my school has Dell servers, I do find the equivalent product (iDRAC) useful, especially the HTML5 virtual console.

 

I guess you need to look through the feature list to see if there are any you need that requires one of the paid licenses.

You don't need to pay for it unless you want additional features, the free version is pretty much all we need to monitor server health and login to the console if there is an issue.

If you don't have it setup you should, it is very useful.

Ok - I'm being really dull here but I cannot find any web console download. I've downloaded several files including firmware updates and the command line version - but nowhere can I find a web version.

 

Can you help?

We are using iLO and haven't purchased any licensing for it, we're using the free version.

 

To access the remote console, you need to log into the iLO's web interface and then select Remote Console from the left menu. (Note: I find it best to use Internet Explorer when wanting to use the remote console - IE uses .NET to run the console - Chrome requires Java)

iLO 5 v1.20+ has an HTML5 remote console. This doesn't require .NET or Java.

Odd, our DL360 Gen9 (iLO4) servers have the HTML5 console available so I use Chrome. You on the latest iLO version?

 

 

Also with a key you will be able to use the remote console for an unrestricted amount of time. Without the license key the session will close after a few minutes.

There is a trial key available for ILO Advance licence.

Not sure on how long it lasts 30 days maybe. Can be used once per server.

 

I used it to use the remote console to install Windows Server when i upgraded. Contemplated buying the advance licence after using it but its a yearly licence

I've just bought 2 new gen10 servers and ilo advanced licenses - was about £190.47 per server.

Yes, I just purchased a licence for my Gen10 server so it can email me if there is a hardware fault.

 

The Gen8 and Gen6 machines work through ie just fine on the free license. (of course, you have to plug the ilo port in first
