I am about to purchase a managed Wi-Fi solution. I have quotes from HP, 3Com, Meru, Trapeze (which I understand sell their kit to 3Com to re-badge) and Nortel.

All are coming out at about the same price, but I am totally confused which product to go for.

We are looking at initially placing 10 APs in a new building then expanding the system across the whole school replacing our 12 Linksys 54g APs with a lot more. Longer term I am hoping to have a high density Wi-Fi network around the school.

Has anyone had and bad (and good) experiences with these products? At the moment I am favoring 3Com and Nortel.

Can I chuck another make in the mix to confuse you even more, try Bluesocket and Ruckus and if you can wait a little while Ric is writing a lovely guide as to why you should look around and I think you may find that the Ruckus stuff comes in very attractivly priced. PM me for a contact at a firm that can supply you with it.

Also worth attending the May Conference to listen to Mark's talk on Wireless as I suspect that will be very useful and as its only a couple of weeks away just hold in there :)

I had a demonstration of this system a month or so back, and was dead impressed. I'm not sure how well it works in practise, but the theory behind it and demonstration is certainly impressive.
