iPad Education Profiles

Hello All,

 

My colleague is currently running through the process of preparing for a new wave of ipads. These are the first ones we have had that can use the apple classroom app.

 

We have got the student iPads to show up the list of classes assigned to it, but we cant figure out how to get the teacher iPad to be able to control the set.

 

We know there are the education profiles, but we don't know how to get that to the teacher iPad. If any one could help that would be awesome.

 

Currently we are using profile manager to manage our devices.

I'm not familiar with Profile manager but MDMs work the same. It should just be a case of assigning the teacher to the Class in Profile Manager. The teacher needs to be assigned as a user to that iPad. Edu profiles are created automatically in the MDM and sent out based on the class information. Can you check in Profile Manager to see if the iPad is assigned to a user (the teacher?)

Thanks @RLR, that was the problem.

 

Just a follow up question, our ipad sets go through upto 5 different teachers a day. Do you use 1 generic account with all the classes listed, or can you log staff in/out of the iPad to get different class lists?

 

I know apple say you can't used shared iPad on the teacher ipad unfortunately and I imagine a large list of all the schools classes might be slightly annoying for the teachers.

It won't really work unless each teacher has their own iPad so that teacher is assigned to their own iPad. You could create a generic teacher account and assign that generic account to that teacher. I think you will need to do this and assign all classes to that one teacher.

If you are going to be using Apple Classroom, at the very least each teacher should have their own iPad to teach with. There is absolutely zero point in trying to find workarounds to share an iPad between multiple teachers.

 

I have plenty of schools that have now realised (after telling them about a hundred times myself) that teachers need to have an iPad to teach with. Many of these now only use an iPad Pro to do everything, no desktop or laptop and they couldn't be happier.
