One for the Papercut users. Have recently taken delivery of some new Kyocera MFDs. The solution comes with Papercut and has all been setup and works well but have some questions regarding advanced workflows.

 

So with Papercut a user can retrieve their jobs, but the Papercut options are basic compared to using a device Job Box, not enough options for changing the job options at the printer, changing trays for example. Also the scanning is ok for basic use, but again nothing compared the device functions, no option for encrypted scan via Papercut is a glaring omission.

 

So what do others do?

Correct you can't change trays, that would need to be set at time of print. Can't you continue to print to the device box and still track them?

 

Have you checked that the scan is unencrypted? do you mean in delivery?

As Big_Ted said, print options are set when you send the job, same as any print job, though I have no idea what a Job Box is so no experience of that. You can use the Papercut universal driver to ensure all options are available but I would test carefully to ensure full compatibility.

 

The scanning is an interesting one. I guess it would depend on what you are scanning, is encryption for documents mandatory at these places? Contact Papercut as they may be able to add it as a feature. Alternatively you scan direct to a share or to OneDrive.

Have a look at Papercut 19.0 which is newly released.

 

I've not installed yet but the release notes mention about editing the job properties at the device before printing.

We have Kyocera devices and as mentioned above Papercut 19 should all ow you to do this. You may have to upgrade the Papercut embedded software shown in the guide below:

have you run wireshark to see about the encryption ?

no option for encrypted scan via Papercut is a glaring omission.

 

Ours goes via encrypted delivery.

With regards to encryption I am talking about password protecting the outputted PDF at the device. The MFD interface allows this, Papercut does not.

 

Also for example via the MFD interface a user can change the output tray for a job at the copier. This helps when printing on labels or other heavy media from a Chromebook. This cannot be done via the Papercut interface, only change number of copies, duplex, colour settings.

Ahh a password, no papercut does not do this but i am sure it is on a list of things to do somewhere.
