[voip] VoIP handsets 100Mpbs or Gig?

There is about £10 difference in the prices we have been quoted by our supplier for Yealink T19 and a Yealink T23G. When looking at 75 handsets this is quite a bit of extra money. Would the T19s be adequate if we need to utilise the passthrough connection for computers? The phones will be used in Main Office, Year Leaders Offices, Subject Offices and communal staff areas. We don't have phones in classrooms.

Should I push for phones with Gig passthrough or will the T19s do the job?

If you're using them to pass a computer through I would go gigabit. Even if you're not I would consider it. You never know what will change in the future. Phones seem to stick around for quite a long time. Edited April 1, 2019 by FN-GM

Gig passthrough is always useful to have, but if you have rj45 where every phone needs to be spare then you can likely do without

 

we went with T40Gs for all phones except the school offices which have T48S - softcat were pretty cheap for getting the handsets

We don't always have a spare RJ45 available. Some rooms only have 1 network connection.

Majority of users are admin users who use G Suite and office apps at most.

I would get the Gigabit phones then.

Yeap, we went 1gig as in many rooms the old phones used an rj11 so we had to borrow the PC socket. This made the phone system upgrade wayyyyyy cheaper than getting people out to install new rj45 in 20 odd offices. ((as long as you have POE+)) Edited April 1, 2019 by chazzy2501
