Primary and special schools will get 100meg minimum, secondary 500meg, free of charge. Max speed will be 1gig

The RAv3 replacement isn't really a replacement tbh, more like RAv3.1 (Freedom2Roam). The big development there is supposedly going to be an HTML5 remote access client, so that you can do everything in a web page. Be interesting to see if it's any good, the Java one was/is appalling.

 

There's an updated firewall page coming up (Freedom2Firewall) better showing your configs, and a streamlined process for change requests and more support, but for most people there won't be direct control. They are looking to provide direct control for those that really want it, but that will require some major configuration changes.

Thanks. I never use the java client I always use Cisco anyconnect vpn which does the job perfectly.

You could be right on the branding, I'm not clear on which exact part of the new development is Freedom2Firewall. They do seem to have just put a lot of new names on things, I've lost track a bit.

 

But you're spot on technically, yes, they are proposing an option that puts you on the Option 2 network, but with your Option 1 Webscreen services.

Just to confirm, the Any Connect client as we currently use it is staying, it's just a revamp of the Web experience.

They also said that Atomwide would be able to provide more support with investigations and packet captures, which has always been the issue I've had. Needing to request what is being blocked, without knowing what is being blocked in the first place.

 

For those who are struggling with RAv3, are you using RAv3 with your users or just for yourselves? I've simply allowed category 2 and can now remote access using Teamviewer or senso.cloud. Both of which work perfectly for what I need.

 

But yes, if it's users who need to remote access, then a better RAv3 would be needed. For me, this is where migrating everything to G Suite has really helped as all of our documents and data are now on Google Drive.

Just to add to this, I am always happy to assist with captures in a support case / direct call. Also if you are struggling regarding filtering and finding out what is stopping you, please call in and ask for me. Anyone can help however, our core team will always try to assist where they can.

My only personal (as in not the view of all Atomwide) concern with category 2 is that you now enable users to connect to their home machines using Teamviewer bypassing all filtering in place unless this is locked down.

I have never liked Rav3 but the AnyConnect client works really well. We use this all the time for IT Admin stuff and a few users have it but restricted to 1 machine that they need access to. 99% of our users who need to, now use RDS for remote access. Will be interesting to see the HTML 5 version of RAV3.

I found the Let's Get Technical conference useful and there were a couple of sessions where I wanted to pass on copies of the information given. I have been looking for the follow-up availability of presentations on-line with no success. Has anyone else spotted them?
