Mattjstmarys Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Good Morning All, Its that time of year again when our Cunningham support contract is due for renewal. This year it has gone up over £700 and is now just below the £4000 mark. Has anyone removed any items from there support contract such as the tills and bio readers? We are still using the Toshiba STA10 tills that they will stop supporting in 2021 but want nearly £6000 to replace them all. We are happy to maintain the hardware in-house and to also look at upgrading them ourselves. Has anyone done this? I have also questioned why it costs £595 for someone to come out to 'install/commission' the tills. Surly if they was to send them out or just deliver them we can install them. Commissioning will not be an issue for us to do in house either as we have extensive knowledge of how their system works from problem solving issues ourselves due to slow support... I would like to look at moving to an alternative supplier (Biostore Fastrak) ideally we would buy the tills inhouse from a third party and Biostore only need to supply the cash loaders and software. Has anyone ever done anything like this? Thanks Matt
Jawloms Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 (edited) We're going through this process at the moment. Currently with NRS (now Civica) with very old kit they will stop supporting soon. We asked around a few places; - Civica - Dearest and we know their support isn't very good. Nothing seems to be included in the support cost. It's all extra! - BioStore - Very quick, very professional, very good looking tills and software, good price. - (We told this guy we'd got in touch with Cunninghams and he said "Oh, you won't hear back from them") - Cunninghams - We didn't hear back from them. Eventually we chased, and they got a quote together, but it was a struggle. - LiveRegister - Product looked dated but technically capable. Worth a chat. Stuart Edited March 22, 2019 by Jawloms
fiza Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 We left Cunninghams and went with Biostore. no regrets. Biostore are much quicker to resolve the very few issues we have had. It was always hard to get hold of anyone at Cunninghams Support, especially in Sept-Oct time.
Wubbalubbadub Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 We "reluctantly" just renewed out maintenance with Cunninghams. I would love to look for a new supplier. Moving to Biostore, would that be costly? Re-register everyone, i presume?
Jawloms Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 It is very costly as you need to buy entirely new hardware throughout. If you're in our position where the kit is so old you need to do that even with your current provider then it's expensive whatever you do. NRS told us that as our kit was so old, even if we stayed with them we would have to redo everyone's fingerprint so we definitely have nothing to lose by looking at alternatives. You'd have thought knowing that, they would give us a reason to stay. They didn't.
jgilroy Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 In reply to MJTayloronline, if you are already using BioStore's IDManager for authentication, then re-registering if you are using V2 or above shouldn't be required as the existing ID Database can be used with their FasTrak cashless system - if you already have Digital Persona finger scanners, then you could save some money there too! 1
HereIGoAgain2601 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 We have just removed hardware support and are looking to ditch Cunninghams in the next 12 month. The company have been awful and haven’t fixed so many issues we have reported. I am sure we are on a very old version even though we pay annually for upgrades. Can’t wait to get rid of it.
