epoch_roots Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Thankfully our contract with Exa expires this year and we're able to move to a new ISP. I'm getting quotes in from all the major suppliers but Zen is one I haven't dealt with before. Their prices seem decent - around £5700 annually for a 1Gbps connection with the £2.2k installation being free on a 3 year contract. Can anyone share their opinion of them? Are they as reliable as a standard BT/Virgin leased line? 1
ibpalle Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 I used Zen for about 10 years for home use. They were very good and support was excellent. They were consistently voted one of the best ISPs and one thing I liked was whenever I had a support issue, I spoke to very knowledgeable people. I can only recommend them.
PD1279 Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 We have used Zen for about 15 years, never looked back. Moved with them through broadband to LME to current Cable connection. Would really recommend, and like @ibpalle, when we did need to ring them about an issue their support teams know nearly everything about their systems so not just talking to "ticket-logging first line people". Longest we have been down is when moving from one product to another at a weekend.
webman Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 I only use them as a home broadband customer, but they are excellent.
Linfit Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 We have used Zen since 2001 for our school internet connection, (initially it was on ISDN !) and I rate them very highly. They are our "local" ISP which helps, but we rarely have to call them and when you do the response is excellent and its someone in Rochdale who answers the phone and who actually knows what they are talking about. I also use them as a home broadband and telephony provider now and have found them excellent to deal with. They are very good at pushing Openreach and getting them to deal with stuff. They won't be the cheapest I suspect but you get a good product and very good service.
mrwoberts Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Definitely a Zen fan. Interestingly I called them just yesterday when we were having issues with our connection - dropped packets... I tried 'everything' before calling them. I was speaking to a technician within a minute of calling them. Very helpful, patient and even though I had done some of the things he asked me to do, I thought it's not his fault. They monitored my connection whilst we did various tests and in the end it turned out to be our UTM having a funny 5 minutes. I had restarted the blessed thing (twice) but for whatever reason it turned out to be that. I apologised for wasting their time but they were excellent. They even called me the following day to ask if they could stop the monitoring as the connection seemed fine.
jcollings Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 What did you not like about Exa? They are bidding for our MAT at the moment - internet and telephony

It just works as expected!!
Securly_Chris Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Used Zen as home and business ISP, highly rate them. Depending on your connection/exchange you maybe still on BT backhaul but the level of service you get with Zen is well above par.
nathan3388 Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 The school been with zen 12 years and never I mean never had down time with them would recommend 100 percent
FN-GM Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Used ZEN for a long time. I have also had the pleasure of meeting the CEO. The company is excellent. Never had any problems at all.
MatthewL Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Never heard a bad word about them, one of very few ISP's I would actually recommend to anyone plus UK based which is a big plus for me.
colly72 Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 +1 for Zen. We've had a leased line with them for a long time now and ADSL before that and never had any problems apart from when a contractor dug through the cable on a Saturday morning. They still had it all back up and running by Sunday evening. Would definitely recommend.
epoch_roots Posted March 22, 2019 Author Posted March 22, 2019 thanks for the replies, it's encouraging seeing so many responses! i'll definitely keep them up the top of my list.
