Hello,

I have just started having users report that they have trouble with PDFs. When they are printing it will take ages to flatten a document 5mins for a 1 or 2 page document (not complex). Also when printing multiple copies it take sages to adjust any of the printing settings.

I have printed a blank word document to PDF and this still has the same issue.

We are running the latest version of DC i have tried an uninstall and reinstall. Clients experience same issues at different sites with different printers installed. All other printing form other applications is fine. When the pdf is opened with chrome the document works fine and prints fine too.

Anyone any advice or is experiencing this?

Running Win 10 all the PDFs vary they are usually just text based. But even a blank PDf created from a word document has the issue.

Are there any damaged content within these PDF's like messed up images or irregular fonts? These usually slow down the process of printing. Another possibility could be the machines, what machines do you?

I had something similar, where Adobe Reader DC would pause on loading for 5-10 seconds, but would also pause for 30 seconds whenever you click "File"->"Print" and it loaded the printers list.

Windows 10 Pro x64, printers served from 2008 R2 print server with type 3 drivers, Adobe Reader DC version 2019.010.20098

I'd tried removing all printers apart from one, reinstalling that printer (not using the print server this time, only TCP/IP directly), reinstalling Adobe Reader DC, resetting preferences using the "hold CTRL-ALT-SHIFT on starting Adobe Reader" - couldn't get this to resolve.

Eventually I deleted the preferences located in this file https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-8511 and it solved it for a few days, then it came back. I removed the user's profile from that machine and then removed the preferences again, this time it seems to have resolved it permanently. Or, at least, it's been 2 months with no complaints.

We too are experiencing this. Latest version of DC 2019.012.20034

Windows 10 LTSC 1809

Two virtual print queues: Mono + Colour - with PCL6 drivers.

A simple 8 page PDF about exam requirements can take 15 minutes to flatten on an i7 !

This has started here as well - don't know why something must have updated. Would prefer Foxit but adobe gets installed with sims

Run Process Monitor on it to see what it's doing. Also try something like NitroPDF to eliminate the print driver from the equation.

No problems whatsoever with Foxit Reader Enterprise 9.5

We have tried the version of Adobe Reader on our original build which was 19.010.xxxxx and that is fine, prints without flattening.

It is something to do with 19.012.xxxxx updates that have caused this behaviour.

We had similar in a school and it was antivirus scanning the spool folder on the print server. As soon as spool folder excluded from scans, problem resolved.

Valid thing to check - but we have all exclusions in place. And it works with older version of Adobe Reader DC and current version of Foxit Reader but insists on "flattening pdf" with any version of Adobe Reader DC 19.012.xxxxx and later.

We are having a similar problem - the best solution we have so far is to 'print as image' (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/quick-fix-print-pdf-image.html).

This stops the flattening issue for us but we still looking for a more permanent solution.

Was gonna say "print as image" too! I had OPs issue and changed that setting, I am yet to find a case where printing as an image causes an issue!?

Also moving from Adobe Reader to Foxit is a good idea, I used to get plenty of users having all sorts of issues printing from Adobe Reader... Since Foxit was installed I've not had 1 issue :)

Did anyone find a solution for this please? We are having problems printing from Adobe DC and Windows 10. Gets stuck on "Flattening". Same PDF and Same version of Adobe Dc on Windows 7 and the PDF prints without issue.

Did you try the setting "Print as image"? Also drop Adobe Reader and install Foxit Reader if you are in a position to ;)

Never found a solution but found a work around. Open DC go to preferences -> Security (Enhanced) and untick "run in AppContainer" then restart DC.

What kind of printer? Noticed this exact issue just a couple weeks ago after I setup a new HP Laserjet M608 for our business department. There are two drivers available: one written for that specific model printer series, and the second being the universal driver. The HP universal always gave me issues in the past so I used the series specific at first. Printing worked just fine, but then I started getting complaints regarding PDF files take a geological age to print. Sure enough after switching to the universal it alleviated the issue. Haven't noticed any other problems since.
