Hi All,

I've been thinking about if it'll be worth running some sort of PowerBI session(s). I've asked a few speakers who have expressed an interest, a few MVPs and even some of the PowerBI team at Microsoft! Obviously this is all dependant on peoples schedules. At a high level, I think there is a desire to make this happen, which leads me on to how much interest actually is there and starting to unpick the details.

At moment I'm thinking free, independent (so not just sales pitch), covering getting started and the basics. So things like

1/ Technical side - licensing, auditing, security

2/ ETL side - actually getting the data into PowerBI, mashing it up into the right format for reporting - adding measures \ calcs

3/ Building reports \ dashboards - using custom visuals, colour schemes, measures\KPI

Would this squish into 1 day work for people (assuming food is provided)? Or spread over a period of time?

Would it be easier to get time off outside of work time? Would Saturday be better then a weekday?

Location wise - big central city? Remote? multiple (if possible)?

Is it worth joining up with ADME (Association of Data Managers) events or such?

Thoughts?

If it's remote - are folks gonna get time away from the office to interact? If so, what sort of time?

I'd suggest trying to do multiple afternoon sessions is possible. It means all the 'It needs to be done today' jobs can be got out the way in the morning.

As already said I think remote sessions would be better as that would be easier for many of us to take part. Also if the remote sessions could be recorded and the recordings made available so we can watch them back at a later date that would be great.

That sounds like a good idea. Our firewall stops us viewing live webinars.

Really? What's the logic behind that? That would make interacting a bit harder.

How’s the planning of this coming along Matt? I love the idea in any format really. We are close to our go-live date and having had a bit of a play around with BI (made some pretty basic behaviour dashboards using some static information exported from SIMs) I cant wait to get started really getting to grips with what it can do!

Obviously having actionable outcomes is the main goal, but knowing how to use to use the tools will give a better understanding of what is possible.

Looking at 1st May @ 2pm for the first webinar, just trying to work out the last few details then I can open sign up.

(Anyone figured out how to fit more hours in the day?)
