Just for personal development at the moment! thanks in advance You will be supprised how easy it is to get a basic VOIP up and running in a lab/dev. You can start real basic by using the 3cx Free version PBX, getting a SIP trunk provider (i.e. Voipfone, Sipgate) and start off using a softphone like the one for 3cx, this will be minimum. I use 3cx at home and have 3 handsets which are old Cisco units SPA504G these work well with the 3cx system but you will want to check the latest compatible handsets before purchase. It should not be impossible to make any IP phone work but with models compatible that have templates it is simply a matter of provisioning the phone in 3cx using the MAC address of the phone, allocate the phone to an extension and you are good to go. I'd suggest using the Windows version of 3cx. If you want to venture to physical handsets then see what is supported by the PBX to make things easier and also make sure you have switches capable of LLDP-MED, power switches would be ideal for production but you will need a PoE injector at least as most VOIP physical phones do not come with a PSU. If you are going into production then I'd strongly recommend using a seperate voice vlans for the physical handsets. Take a look at some online videos for popular VOIP PBX systems i.e. Asterisk, 3cx etc. Edited March 13, 2019 by Davit2005 1
