Free Hard Drive Imaging Software?

Is there any free software that will allow me to create an image of my laptop hard drive and then back it up to DVD. Thus allowing me to boot up from the DVD and restore the HDD back to the image that I created?

Now that the above has been answered, how about a hijack?

 

I'm looking for a way to create an image of a disk, but remotely. For example, I want to sit my fat arse at my desk and after a few key presses be able to back up a remote workstation to a central image repository. I could always give DriveImage XML the C$ share of a workstation, but that's no good for a drive backup.

 

Any ideas?

Something that exports the harddrive as a network-available block device of some kind? An iSCISI target maybe? If you find one, let me know!

The majority of top level software imaging packages can accomodate this;

 

You normally have to purchase an add-on or get an upgrade, I know with my Ghost setup I had to get a specific 'agent'. I think it was the 'hire a techy to do the running around for you' agent

Maybe FOG Imaging. FOG :: A Ghost-like Computer Cloning Solution - Home

 

From what I have read, FOG Imaging allows you to create various tasks (backup, restore) that can be automatically run. When the computer starts up, it uses PXE boot to check with the FOG server to see if a task is scheduled. If so, it runs the task. Otherwise, it boots Windows normally.

 

Again, I have not yet used the program. I am in the process of setting it up as I speak.
