We are looking to invest in a new standard programme that we can have in our ICT Suites.

Basically we are looking for classroom management software.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.:)

@MRPHIL + GEOFF

How dows AB Controll work when you have serval IT Suites all using it?

Does it have any administration applications?

Thanks

We use RM Tutor here which is NetSupport rebadged. Works well for us, although it is a bit slow to load up all the PCs, especially if you log in as admin so it picks up every PC in the school, not just in your room.

If RM have followed Ranger's implementation of NSS, you can configure which machines a "tutor" will connect to. It requires a sensible naming convention such as CompRm_PC1 or Art_PC1 to allow discrimination.

Our PCs do all have a "sensible" names, but it isn't really an issue - RM have done some other wizardry so that it picks up any PC in the same AD container folder; the only exception is administrators who get all of them for some reason. Even that isn't such an issue, as it is only installed in the two ICT Suites and can be useful sometimes (especially lunchtime monitoring), it just takes a little while to load them all so you need to remember to open it earlier.

Lanview? If you are looking at giving the power to some teachers it needs a little more config in locking down who can access the clients. But if you are using it from the tech support side, its easy to setup.

Downloaded a trial of ABTutor earlier this week. Pretty impressed. Installation is a breeze, it's slick and quick and easy to configure and does what it says it will. And it's cheap as well.

We use Impero here which covers both classroom management functions in addition to student monitoring and protection. There is a free trial download on the website.

You are also welcome to come and have a look at it in use here ;)

That looks a lot better than Netop School 3.0 which we currently use. How much does it cost?

We use RM Tutor 3 - don't really have many problems with it at all, you can group workstations into specific rooms for ease of management and browse for machines of certain names e.g. IT1-## rather than have it connect to the entire network.

Can also be used by the teachers if they wanted to show a specific computer screen in their room to every workstation... lots to play around with! You can even broadcast audio/listen to audio to workstations :-p

Impero cost our school £5000, but I feel it was money very well spent just on the amount of time it saves my team as we can now do so much more remotely. The ability to run scripts and the like (Impero has its own scripting console) on a whole room at once is fantastic. The support from Impero is also excellent and they tend to incorporate suggestions and tweaks into the very next release of the software (which come round every few weeks).

Once you start factoring in the teaching tools, and Impero is streets ahead of most of its competitors.

I am reliably informed that A2Z Computers from whom I purchased the system are quite negotiable on price! There are ways of recouping costs as well, such as resale of PICstick (a version of Impero for use at home by concerned parents)...
