why dont you just export the settings from regedt32 with proxy on and proxy off(search the registry for the exact part) and save to desktop will allow them to turn proxy on and off easily

why the hell are they using laptops we have a workstation with dual Xeons 4GB ram and a £200 graphics cards with 500Gb internal HDD on a striped array and 2 NAS boxes of 1TB each to store old projects on. I think you could probably get away with high end intel core 2 duos or what ever they are being called this week

@toledo The systems manager would be over the MIS Manager and the Network Manager if the org was big enough

systems manager would have control of the MIS systems on top of network management, things like ensuring teachers are using SIMS and what not. Systems manager is a more overall job, network manager is as quoted before just looking after how the computers and servers interconnect and in larger organisations NW managers may not even touch the Servers and Clients

when you log on the machines and in Task manager whats the network usage like on each vlan if its above 20% you probably have a loop, just turn your switches off one at a time to see when this drops down and you will isolate your problem

not certain yet getting a feeling thats all. They got to the Headteacher at a conference and he is pretty keen for us to use them but they seem a bit wishy washy, and just seems like they are out to make "administrative charges". Maybe I have just heard the same old story before!!!

if you have to leave go get some contract work, depends on your skills ste but if your half decent you should walk into a semi decent contract job and the pay is pretty good.

dokeos bit harder to set up on your part but really easy to use for teachers and kids and also looks more professional than moodle

Checked STP on all CLient ports seem to be configured correctly only links between switches have STP enabled. Firmware was updated in the summer so should be upto date, with regards to the switches the core is a HP Procurve 5400 and the edge switches are 2626's and a couple of 5300's but the problems only seem to occur on the 2626's, absolutely bizarre will press on with the investigation. Today I think I will try one ICT suite and disable STP on the switches totally... should give a definative answer to if it is STP or not

Having major headache here. I have a procurve network with 3 vlans Admin clients, curriculum clients and servers vlan, on the curriculum client vlan the student machines randomly lose connection to the server, you can run a ping test and will run fine for a while and then drop out for a second or so and then start pinging again. I have tested the connectivity on the other VLAns and there is no problem, nothing in the event logs on the switches router pc or server, have tested all cabling and all fine, I have an inclin that it has something to do with the STP configuration on the switches but nothing is apparent on the configuration can anyone think what I am missing?
