Hello,

I've been trying to get hold of this company since Friday via Telephone (all 4 numbers), live chat and email and had nothing. Does anyone know if this company is still around?

thanks in advance Lee

Interesting. We had a few sales reps over the last few years telling us to go PCounter. Weirdly enough.. one in particular got very aggressive and attempted to go above my head.

So glad I listened to my gut feeling if this turns out to be true.

What is it about some copier sales people and being super aggressive? I've not had them threaten to go over my head, but I have had them push certain brands or products to the point that they were questioning whether I knew what I was talking about.

Can I just check, are we talking A I T (https://www.ait.co.uk/) as we have a couple of contracts with them and have heard nothing about this! Or as the OP wrote A L T?

Yep, same company.

Thankfully all our contracts ran out during the time they stopped doing business. We found out when we tried to get in touch to renew ;)

this was good timing for us - moved from pcounter to papercut this week with a new copier contract

How are you finding the change?

We've been looking at possibly moving over to Papercut, but struggling to justify the costs to SLT.

Bum. Well that's tomorrow's primary aim sorted.

I am finding papercut so much better.

Everything works through a web browser.

Things like quotas, scheduling, reports, scan to one drive, mobile printing etc.

There are loads of scripts you can import and modify very easily e.g. emails print in b/w , pop up asks for confirmation for colour jobs over a certain size.

We banned one student for printing for 2 weeks due to continued wastage - this was just a drop down box on his account.

How well does it handle print jobs with large file sizes?

It's something we've had a lot of issues with in the past. Sales rep from Papercut not only claims that it shouldn't be a problem with Papercut, but that we could get away with only one print server.

Will find out next week when staff are back in - had no problem with it in previous school.

we are only running one server 2016 printer server

Pcounter is now being distributed a new organisation ... Altman IM... please note this is not connected with AIT, despite myself, Mark Altman, being involved. I left AIT 6 years ago and was contacted about the liquidation of my old company to try and rescue things. We have now agreements to represent Pcounter so we would love to hear from anyone using Pcounter ... please register your details by emailing us at [email protected] ... myself, Sam Lindley and Chris Terrington have all been involved with Pcounter for many years and look forward to rebuilding the community. The core solution is still being actively developed and there are a lot of cost effective complementary solutions ... so the future is assured. We look heard to working with anyone who needs support or has additional requirements.

papercut does very very little with print jobs from a technical POV. Sure it can pause, convert them, redirect them etc but the actual impact on that print job is not a lot. So if your current print server can cope with large file sizes then all should be good.

Having multiple print servers is not rare and as their is no license impact also not a problem. Some people split them up to share the load around. With a print job you never know how big the spool file will be, from a technical POV we see print jobs over 3GB fairly often (no idea why) and they work fine assuming the network can cope.

I know this thread is a bit old now but I felt really mugged off when the quotation came through for renewal of support. We'd been paying just short of £400 with AIT and the new quote came back from Altman at just over £1200 - needless to say they lost the business and we'll probably run this into the ground and rethink our needs when we come to rebuilding the print server.

Hi Norbert

I think there is a misunderstanding on this - as far as we know, we've quoted the same pricing, or lower, for like for like maintenance cover on any Pcounter related maintenance, since we took over the distribution of Pcounter. We've been providing free support since AIT went into liquidation on the basis of renewing maintenance with customers at their next anniversary of the original contract.

I have also posted on here previously to clarify that I had personally no involvement with AIT since I left that business in 2012, although I appreciate my name was still linked with that organisation for obvious reasons.

Could you contact me directly to resolve this as this is not something that I'm aware of and I am unable to trace which maintenance renewal you're referring to. Please be assured that we will not charge any more than you have been charged previously - I am wondering if other elements of the solution were included possibly?

I can be contacted via email on [email protected] or by mobile on 07980 803945.

Many thanks.

Regards

Mark Altman
