Hi @Badaz52 firstly thanks very much for using our service :)

Use http://www.speedtest.net and use our speedtest server (called Talk Straight based in Ilkley).

We can also do some iperf tests with your help. A lot of the speedtests sites on the Internet don't give accurate results when used with high capacity lines such as the one you have.

If both of these are not returning results of near enough a gig then we will do further investigation as it'd either be a misconfiguration our side (unlikely but could happen) or a capacity and / or network issue with the wholesale carrier we've used which we need to take up with them.

Please contact the support team on 0 11 33 222 333 and they'll help you out.

Thanks

Hi Dave,

Using speedtest and pointing to your speedtest server results in a latency test error.

Thanks

Eek...

This thread has prompted me to run tests of our own, with fast.com and testmy.net

Both returning 95mbps - we're on 1gb up/down!

Time for a phone call!

Of course, if I run a 1gb test when i'm only patched to a 100mb switch then....

D'oh!

also check your duplex and what it's locked at between our router and your switch and confirm with our support. if it's negotiating at 100Mbit then that's going to be a bottleneck.

I don't think your support will want to touch my Exa connection :)

Ours may be a BT issue as they were already providing a 100mbps circuit into the school which is still live until the 1st September. The BT guys used the existing circuitry and fitted a separate tail for the new connection. Support have checked the MTU which is correct so BT must not have increased the speed to 1gbps because the other one is still active. Hopefully they can do it now.

I plugged in directly and still only got <=100mbps and all of our switching gear is 1gbps.

Just a F.Y.I for everyone before they start complaining to there providers, check if you were quoted mega bits or bytes per second. 1000 mega bits per second is about 125 mega bytes per second.

1. Special school, 2 sites

2. 150 users, about 75 on each site

3. 2 100MBit leased lines

4. £4350 per site, including filtering

Did let us save on off site backups and phones though, £3000/year on phones, and whatever backup costs

Pity no one was offering 50Mb upload.
