CyBeRkId2002 Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 We are currently moving to a hosted MIS solution and one of the big issues for me is minimizing the possibility of downtime. We have hosted filtering with a transparent proxy. Whilst we are generally happy, the filtering in my experience is always the weakest link and we are trying to get the routing sorted so an IP (or range of IPs) skips the filter all together. If the filter goes down, no problem... we still have an MIS. Filter on a go-slow, no problem, the MIS isn't using it. I am being told this isn't possible. I am fairly sure I have spoke to at least one school who had the same concerns and their ISP put this exact solution in place! Has anyone, no matter which ISP achieved this? Seems a relatively straight forward networking config to me. Surely somewhere along the route traffic is redirected to the surf-protect, we just need a rule with a higher precedence to forward traffic to our MIS' IP range on to the next hop, rather than surf protect? Looking for any advice/guidance on how this can be achieved. Cheers
pete Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 I don't know which RBC you're using, but it is possible on emPSN. Assuming it's a common MIS, your provider should have a pre-canned firewall rule for it that you can select on the change request form.
MatthewL Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Can a route be put in place for your MIS that totally bypasses any filtering for the destination so anyone as such can get to that without the filtering coming into effect?
