I've been at a new school just for a month, so please excuse any 'newbie' style questions. As I understand it, we use RM Broadband and it seems to perform well. We also use RM Integris, which from the very little I've seen of it runs extremely fast compared to the progresso world I left behind.

Where I've seen some issues that impact me are:

Windows password resets seem to cause issues with internet access. Forced re-syncs somewhere (can't remember exactly - could be Unify?) seemed to be required - is this normal?

The second one is that I understand we have SSL proxy filtering. I've seen a few times where MS Edge comes up with a SSL error, but IE and Chrome are as happy as Larry. I had a quick search on the forums here and RMs public facing sites and I'm getting two impressions.

i) Edge isn't supported - see https://www.rm.com/~/media/PDFs/Our-Products/Esafety/RM_SafetyNet_Plus_Google_SSL_update.pdf?la=en - could be handy as our IT team would be have a good reason to block Edge!

ii) it seems to only talk about Google searches - of course other search engines are available...

Am I anywhere near the correct interpretation with these two observations?

Hi there, Steve Forbes from RM here - glad to hear that things are performing well other than the issues you have described. It sounds like you may have an issue with the AD sync agent so it's probably worth you logging a support call for that so we can investigate further. The second one is a strange one, what kind of error do you get? Again, if you log a support call I will make sure both get looked at promptly.

Edge is supported - I will get the article updated with this and SSL interception works with all the major search engines, not just Google so I will get that updated as well.

@Ditto we've been using the user based Safetynet and Unify for over a year now, and always warn our users to allow upto 15 minutes after they change their network password for it to be synchronised with Safetynet. It's normally faster than that as we have the AD tool checking for password changes every 2 minutes, but the upload only runs every 10-15.

There was an issue earlier this week where new passwords were not being syncronised correctly, but was resolved reasonably quickly.

With regards the SSL certificate, we have the certificate installed on all our stations via GPO and have no issues with it on Edge, Chome or Safari. It you do not have it installed, we've found that only google complains, and all the other sites still work as normal.

Thanks for reaching out. I'll follow up next week. We have a support account, but I'll need to get the details first. I'm also going to benefit from getting the steps to bypass the filter. When I tried to investigate this, it appeared the term 'proxy' would caused a block. I can understand that for pupils, but for IT support, I'm going to need to do that as I get up to speed.

It could be related to the issue earlier in the week - I'll see how things are on Monday. I have installed the certificates on a local only laptop but as it's Win 7, no Edge to complicated life! I'm fairly sure the certificates are correctly installed on domain controlled devices. What was odd for me, is that running the same URL in each of Edge, IE and chrome, only Edge complained. I think it was the URL for for login in to RM Integris. I'll be checking on Monday and will update the thread.

runs extremely fast compared to the progresso world I left behind.

Off topic but it made me laugh. Think yourself lucky to have missed the joys of Progresso 18.6 released over Christmas.

Oh! For all the wrong reasons, tell me more - PM if needs be! I just heard my replacement started - surprise, surprise, an ex-SIMS user with no Progresso experience and census day shortly. Poor lass has just been kicked out of her 'office' to allow for a chill out room for all the stressed out kids! She's had to work in the staffroom with a PC/Chromebook on her lap. Ah - fond memories! This is the one with the new UI right?

The issues you are describing I am getting exactly the same, proxy login and SSL cert. Currently talking to RM support at the moment regarding the proxy issue. The cert issue for us is across the board in chrome, IE and edge but only happens on certain machines.
