bobsmith Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I'd temper that "No" with a "maybe". I'm running 64bit excel and word and haven't yet run into any issues with SIMS not playing nice. Maybe I've not done anything super clever or unusual yet....
synaesthesia Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 SIMS still behind the ball? Who'd have thunk it. It's not like 64bit applications including Office haven't been around long; the mandation of it may be arriving shortly but that won't gee them up much!

localzuk Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I will say it again as a hard no. We tried 64 bit out with our staff and found numerous issues with letters and things that export into Word. The macros in them simply do not work on 64bit. The word back from support was "64 bit is not supported".

I just googled the requirements for SIMS and they do state workstations can have 64-Bit Office. http://www.capitaess.co.uk/home/Minimum_System_Requirements_March2016.pdf Surely this means Capita should be supporting it if there are any issues? I know for the longest time though they weren't, and only googled this spec just now... I have been waiting until someone on Edugeek said 'hey guys, they're finally supporting 64-Bit' before jumping.

True, but that is minimum requirements. There is a new version of the document (attached) which is basically the same saying Office 2013 (32-bit and 64-bit) and Office 2016.SIMSHardwareSpecification.pdf 1

hardtailstar Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Just to add my point back in, we are using Office 2016 64 Bit and have had no issues reported. We have been running 64 Bit Enterprise and Office since last May time. But we have had an issue with SIMS printing since moving to 64Bit Windows but reinstalling an up to date driver seems to have cured that. Now I fully expect all the issues to start happening as I have now said this..... 1

I’m running 64 bit office also with sims in a support capacity and too be fair not had any problems Iv noticed myself but I don’t use sims on a daily basis, but I was also told the same not long ago by a sims support provider we use that sims has lots of glitches with 64 bit office and their personal recommendation is to stick with using the 32bit in our deployment build. Think it is dependent on modules you use with in sims as to how problematic it can be. We use lesson monitor, nt6, exams, behaviour to name a few , fms (strictly it’s own app admittedly with its own problems) Is there a specific requirement for 64bit office because if not Stick with 32 bit if it not going to cause you any grief with other apps.

matt40k Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 I did hear a few people say they'll be at BETT and they can help us get our MIS system working with 64bit Office, they are a Capita partner too, think they said they work at "Broomcom"?
