Social Media Monitoring/Listening

Morning all,

 

I've been asked if we monitor social media for any mentions of the trust, in short we don't. Any direct mentions we get alerted to but we don't actively search for any mentions as this is surely a huge undertaking. The question stems from this post our business manager has read:

 

Social Media: Protecting schools

 

Does anyone else actively monitor? If so how are you doing so?

Yes but only as part of a larger "keeping our finger on the pulse" idea. We're part of the local community so keep an open eye for things going on whether they directly relate to us or not. Things come up that perhaps we could be a part of, things come up involving us that may need/want our input, sometimes negative things come up and it's difficult to deal with those. Communication however is extremely important and social media is our #1 method of communicating to the outside world WAY over and above any website.

We have a few staff in the "Local Gossip" groups that keep an eye (But don't post) on what's being mentioned locally.

I use Hootsuite to monitor mentions etc. However this is extremely difficult as there are massive amounts of mentions of rugby clubs/cricket clubs/stag weekends and God knows what else using part of our domain name!!

We use Google Alerts for key word alerts like the school name and then just use tweet deck to monitor twitter. I live locally so am in most of the local gossip groups anyway and normally staff alert us as well.
