Sound Proof Server Rack

I'm looking for recommendations for Sound Proof 12U Server Rack.

 

Thinking of building a small test environment with a couple of servers, nas box etc which will be located in my office as I want easy physical access and be safe in the knowledge that i can test and unplug things it wont affect the anything int the server room.

Kell Systems cabinets - now bought by APC and sold as Netshelter CX - are pretty quiet. I've had a small one for many years for holding CCTV equipment.

They are very expensive, I wouldn't bother myself as if you get a refurbished 4u/5u/tower dell server, they are really quiet as they have big fans that spin slowly.

 

(It's the 1u and 2u servers that tend to be really loud as they have small horrible Concorde fans, and lots of them!)

 

Got a Dell R710 here and after it's boot when it spins the fans right down its no louder than my PC.

If its just a test server, you could use something like rack mounted NUC's. This is what I do with all my test stuff now in the server rack.

I have a number of spare VeryPC 1U servers which are noisy and was planning to use them, but having looked at the price of the Sound Proof racks, it would be cheaper to buy some refurb servers and a normal 12U rack.

Soundproof racks are indeed expensive. And they run hot too!

 

What kind of test environment did you envisage? Hex Core Xeon desktop workstations are fairly cheap right now and they'll handle the usual server loads, just without the redundant PSU. They're quieter too!

I would also consider a HP Microserver (can get from eBay if you want) and put in some big/SSD disks - max out the Ram and install Hyper-V / VMWare as it's only a test environment

I was planning to install Server 2012 with HyperV in a cluster config and test replication of VMs and then test in place OS upgrades on the hosts to Server 2019

 

Will then be using those servers as a area to test my DR plan and also play with SIMS migration to a new server and other fun things.

what about a dell vrtx, not sure on sound but its a single plug solution for an office. A really compact blade system.
