kennysarmy Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Our Data Manager has had SIMS.net crash ten times in the last hour and she is doing nothing intensive, just editing staff records. Anyone seen that specific error before? All I can advise to her is to restart as soon as it crashes once and also to limit the number of applications open when she is working in SIMS. The PC is fairly good spec: MSI Micro ATX H81M-P33 Intel Core i5-4460 12 GB RAM 120 GB SSD drive.
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 The text of the error message is usually far more informative than the error code as Capita only have KB articles for a handful of error codes in use.
round2it Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 is dot net framework upto date not related to your issue but I had an issue where I could not validate addresses and sims crashed I put the latest dot net framework on and the problem was resolved. its just something to try
bobsmith Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 since the summer update it's been really flakey if you're doing lots of updates to anything at all. We've spent ages investigating infrastructure issues here but I'm leaning towards something at the code end of the issue.

Text was : Error creating windows handle : System ComponentModel.Win32Exception - - - Updated - - - is dot net framework upto date not related to your issue but I had an issue where I could not validate addresses and sims crashed I put the latest dot net framework on and the problem was resolved. its just something to try Thanks - I'll check this.
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 Error creating windows handle is saying that Capita's code to clean up memory allocation in SIMS isn't perfect and doing some tasks in SIMS leaves residual memory allocated every time you do the action. Capita does work every few years to reduce the amount of memory some tasks leave allocated and I'm guessing they haven't had time to do this optimisation for their new code in editing staff records. You'll have to log it with Capita to address as there is nothing you can do to fix it. All you can do is close SIMS every once in a while to clear the memory leak.

Good advice which I have passed back to our Data Manager. Thanks.
coolhands Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Getting this for one user in particular as she is searching for pupil names (she is doing a repetitive task). I got her to restart sims but it has still occurred quite quickly again.
