OneDrive Setup on First Logon

Hi all,

 

I am curious to know how long it takes for the OneDriveSetup.exe to run in a real world environment?

I have all the setup in place, but it's taking up to 10 minutes on my VM before the OneDrive client is logged in and ready to use on first logon.

I'm wondering if this is because my VM isn't very high powered, or whether this is the norm!

 

We have the SSO settings turned on and are experimenting with the known folder redirect.

 

8/10 everything works as expected once the initial setup has taken place - sometimes no user is logged on automatically.

 

I have used a script found on another thread to download the latest OneDriveSetup.exe to the machine before user logon.

 

Any feedback on using this in a live environment would be appreciated

About 2-5 minutes on ours, also doing SSO. It hammers the CPU though and I really can't understand why; nor can I understand why it runs its own updater rather than via WSUS

Because Microsoft want the updates to the clients not stopped by admins. I agree they should be on WSUS or at least per machine with controls like Windows Update for Business.

It does take a while on the first login but it's meant for 1:1 devices. A lot of the talks at Ignite indicated 1:1 or kiosk devices being the devices microsoft envisages being used. I did some scripts to download the latest Onedrive client and copy it to each pc. I hear its a lot quicker with hybrid joined PCs or azure only PCs.

Indeed, MS forcing a vision on businesses that they don't want... Windows 8 anyone?

 

I push the latest client at image time through what I imagine is a similar script to yours, we're planning Hybrid Join at some point so will be interesting to see if that does change things vs. our existing SSO provider.

We are of similar times on much older machines too.

On our newer machines, it is instant on the second logon.

Initial logon is 2-3 minutes like @psydii
