Colour laser running costs

I’m setting up the demo version of Paper Cut and was wondering if anyone has got the actual cost of printing a page of A4 colour photos for the HP 3800?

That seems cheap to me - even if it excludes paper costs... On our OKI, we're charging 34.5p for colour

All of those are based on 5% of the page being covered with toner on average. Its way more in a school.

If someone can figure out all the consumable costs, including replacement parts, point when drum needs replacing, etc... I can add it into my spreadsheet and give you a more accurate comparison..

no drums to replace

 

normal bog standard a4 copy paper (votopaper or something i think its brandname is)

 

i have a couple of Oki's in schools also and i darnt even think how expensive they are cause the toners just cost so much.

Information on TCO for colour laser seems hard to find.

 

I'm just about to start looking for some A4 colour laser printers for art dept.

 

Of course they want something that is cheap to run and prints fast. Doesn't seem to matter how many times I tell them that the cost will be about 50p per page for full coverage, they always know someone who has a printer that prints thousands of pages from one set of carts and each page only costs a couple of pence.

EDIT: Updated as I made a small mistake in the black cartridge rating.

Turns out I had the 2600n in there already...

 

FYI:

- I'm assuming colour/toner usage is 29% black & 23.5% for each colour. This allows all the toners to run out at the same time

(Black = 2500 pages @ 5%, colours = 2000 pages @ 5%)

- paper is not included

 

5% coverage: £0.020 per page (8500 pages)

35% coverage: £0.142 (4857 pages)

70% coverage: £0.283 (2428 pages)

95% coverage: £0.384 (1789 pages)

 

Bear in mind these figures are assuming no waste, and on the stats provided by the marketing folks.. I'd hazard a guess there's an error margin of about +/-10%

 

Just for a comparison the 2550LN comes in with around a 20% reduction on the 2600n (mainly because the 2550 has a much higher toner capacity!)

..., the Kyocera FS-C5020N came in at half!

 

 

...and my own CIS kits on a K5400n came out with this...

5% coverage: £0.001 (inc' kit cost: £0.019)

35% coverage: £0.008 (inc' kit cost: £0.039)

70% coverage: £0.016 (inc' kit cost: £0.078)

95% coverage: £0.022 (inc' kit cost: £0.106)

 

("inc kit cost" is cost with kit as a consumable - the lower cost is bulk ink refill cost.)

In case anyone else was wondering I have a spreadsheet that I used to double check my CIS kits against other possible options.

 

It takes the consumables AND associated costs such as drum replacement, transfer belt, etc... and then compares inkjets and lasers across a range.

 

So for example the 2600n has no replacements like drums, etc... and has only toner to worry about... Compare that against the Samsung CLP-510N which changes the drum colour @ 12500 prints, drum black @ 50000, waste toner @ 12000 and image transfer belt @ 50000. It takes that into account over a specified output and pops out a total cost of ownership (although not the paper).

 

 

As I said, I can put in pretty much any printer so long as the manufacturer has provided a comparable specification such as X prints @ Y% coverage.

 

It's also worth bearing in mind that other factors do figure and there's no way to be 100% sure of the results as marketing folks tend to lie, quote "draft" mode figures, etc...
