iPad 2 deployment (School)

Hey all,

 

I wounder if someone could point me in the right direction with this one. In our school we have loads of iPad 2's (we have around 150) which staff and students use, they all need wiping, supervising, name changing and putting back onto Cisco Meraki MDM ASAP.

 

I was hoping to use apple school manager but this is now out of the question, long story.

 

I have used apple configurator and tried to build a blue print as i wanted to install some apps, but not all of them will install as the iPad 2 OS is too old

 

Is there a quicker way of doing this, or is it a manual process?

I’ve not had problems with the iPad 2 and AC2.

 

Why do you say the OS is too old?

Some apps won't install, which is the same for the 4 models we have. You just have to do without for those, unless you have old app files. Not sure any MDM or prep will be any different there.

iOS is at 9.3.5

 

When i try to install some apps they will not install, it just hangs.

How are you installing the apps if you dont have access to Apple School Manager / VPP?

I'd be interested to hear how you are doing it too as we ran into a similar issue.....without a VPP or School Manager account your apps will forever ask for AppleID's everytime you open them which will drive the teachers nuts.

You need a volume purchase account.

Sorry - not tried Office on them as we don't use iOS for that sort of thing (we're a Windows stalwart). There were quite a few apps that simply didn't work - I skipped them and moved on. If the apps can't be loaded on there, it's a consequence of their age and makes the case for replacements if these apps are essential. Otherwise, you may find suitable alternatives or Office365 should work.
