So we use LAN School currently. It's a bit out of date, so we are possibly looking at another solution.

Impero seems to be quite good, but does it have the same functions as LAN school?

We use AB Tutor. I say "we", I use AB Tutor. The console is installed in every IT suite but teachers don't want to use it, don't know how to use it (despite documentation and training) or forget it's there. But that's by-the-by.

I use it as remote support. As far as I know it comes fairly close to Impero at a fraction of the cost. I'm not sure as to what specific features LAN School has that you're after, but I'd say it's a fairly decent product.

Disclaimer: We use AB Tutor v8. v9 came out a while ago and some features were removed which I didn't like and rolled back to v8.

Staff use LAN School to blank student Screens, display the teachers screen.

We use DameViewer for remote control but that is also old hat. So if there is something built in for Techs as well that would be a bonus.

AB Tutor does all that. You pay for it based on the number of consoles you want to install, or buy a site license which is considerably more expensive.

Rather than rattle everything off, see this.

Our teachers did this exercise just recently. Their favourite was LANSchool. They hated Veyon. I think they were on the fence about the others. Impero wasn't part of the process as I refuse to deal with them after multiple bad experiences with their sales people.

It really depends on what you want from the software. Both LANSchool and ABTutor concentrate mostly on the classroom management side of things whereas NetSupportDNA/School and Impero go for the full kitchen sink approach with classroom management, endpoint management and safeguarding.

You could probably get LanSchool updated for cheaper than you could get something new in--we'd let support lapse for a couple of years (because it just worked) but were having problems with Windows 10. Taking out a year's support gave us access to the latest update again, and was only £442 (secondary school, up to 700 devices). You could let it drop again after a year if you wanted to keep it cheap after that.

Hi sippo,

It sounds like you might be running an older version (v7.x) of LanSchool where a lot of functionality and improvements (speed and efficiency, safeguarding and mobile platform support) were added in v8.0+

I'll drop you a PM with my details if you would like to have a chat about your environment and where v8 might improve things for you. A straight upgrade would probably be your cheapest option and bring you in-line with the latest compatibility and functionality.

Impero is a dumpster fire right now. There last 2 patches have made the system unusable. We are once again waiting on a "fix in the next patch for this known issue".

Seems like they are back in the same boat they were a year ago.
