more than one person viewing a client in ranger

Hi

Is it possible for more than one person to view what a pupil is up to using ranger remote. If I try to connect to clients that one of the teachers is already viewing i get a message informing me that someone else is already viewing these macines and i cant connect to them. if it is possible for more than one person to view the machines how is it done.

It is sometimes necessary to allow more than one Tutor to view a Client at the same time. This is not configured by default but it is possible. To enable this functionality a parameter must be added to the Client configuration file.

 

 

Instructions

 

 

For every Client you want this functionality enabled you must do the following:

 

Open the Client installation folder (C:Program FilesRanger Remote Control)

Find a file called Client32.ini and open it a text editor such as Notepad.

Add the line Shared=1 to the Client Section of the Client32.ini file and save it

Use the CKSINI utility to generate a checksum on the client32.ini file

 

The client configuration file (client32.ini) stores major client functionality settings. The file includes a checksum. If the file is modified directly by a user the checksum will no longer be valid. In order for the client to use this file after adding the Shared1 option you need to run a utility called CKSINI.exe to update the checksum.

 

Below is a link to the utility which needs to be run in a command prompt.

 

The CKSINI.EXE utility is used to apply a new Checksum value to the Client configuration file.

 

The CKSINI utility is can be downloaded here.

 

The Syntax for the CKSINI utility is: CKSINI FILENAME

 

Where FILENAME is the path and filename of the Client Configuration file.

 

For the change to take effect you will need to restart the Client.

 

Testing

 

 

Once you have reconfigured the file you need to distribute the file to all the other clients you want this functionality on. You can copy the file manually into the RRC installation folder on each machine or use a logon script to copy the file alternatively you can use the Remote Deploy program to distribute the file for you.

That is a correct answer for v7. However, it doesn't seem to work with v9.01.

 

That said, I may be doing something wrong, it has happened...

 

Edit. They have changed the "Applies to..." now to say "All Versions", so it looks more like I'm doing something wrong. I'll have another go when I can get into the room!

The method to allow more than one teacher to connect to a pupil hasn't changed in V9.0x. You should still be able to put shared=1 into the client32.ini file.
