Transfer student GCSE exam work to new school

We had a student transfer schools over the summer. The new drama department have specifically requested some film footage of a performance he did so that they can grade his performance for his GCSE coursework, but this footage also includes other students who participated.

Would we be allowed to send the new school this footage without seeking consent from the other students? Or should we be looking at a different approach to this? I've been thinking about this all morning and have got myself into a real brain-fog!!

I just need to see if your conclusions are the same as the one I've come to.

Is it not graded already by your school? Could that be passed on?

Apparently the footage will be linked to a piece of coursework that he has yet to write, so the Drama teacher would need to see it to mark/grade the written work. This seems to be getting more complicated by the hour.....this morning all I had to answer was "can we send this students coursework to his new school?". It was only when I started asking about what the coursework was that it was mentioned that it was a recording!!!!

Hmm, interesting one. I'd be wanting specific consent from each student (assuming they're 13 or over) to cover it, then I would have thought it'd be reasonably do-able. Could be sorted with a form and whip-round the class. Any refusers and it gets much trickier.

How would this be handled when it is sent to the exam board? Maybe there an existing policy where this is covered?

I assume everyone involved agreed to be recorded for the specific purpose of it being used to grade the work, which is still what's happening.

This is very specific use - for an exam board. It will be subject to very specific rules regarding its handling regardless of which school has it. I think you would be OK to send it (subject to encryption etc).

Interesting one. The recording has been made by school x of pupils of school x. The video is of an activity done as part of the curriculum to be shared with the exam body... Public Task would available at the lawful basis here? Or was it done under consent?

The school will have decided who it can be shared with (Exam Board), but have they said they will share with anyone else? If not then go and ask the pupils / parents ... or inform them you are going to share (public task) but give the right to object.

 

Do your due diligence on the school ... ask who will see the performance, how will it be stored ...

 

Enter into an agreement with the school ... there are a range of ways you can skin the cat on this one but it does mean thinking about what you are doing, risks involved and so on. It may be that you share with exam board and then they share it to the new school.
