Just a word of warning to anyone who is planning on deploying it make sure you do it on a few test machines and have back ups in place.

Don't worry, staying well clear for at least a couple of months. Sticking with 1803 for now, which is relatively stable but has quite a few quirks still. Thanks for the warning though. 1

I can see a big CU coming next week. I guess insiders don't join the insider builds to a domain and test multiple configurations.

Microsoft skips over Release Preview and drops the Windows 10 October 2018 Update Last week, there was a rumour that the Windows 10 October 2018 Update was going to be released on 2 October, and surprisingly, here we are, and the rumour was true. Oddly enough though, Microsoft skipped over the last ring of the Windows Insider Program, meaning that quite a few people who signed up for Windows 10 testing, haven't actually tested it.

Day two and Windows 10 October 2018 Update trips over Intel audio Barely a day into release and Microsoft has admitted there is a problem with its shiny new OS and chips from Intel. Using Intel Display Audio? No Windows for you! As well as the usual complaints from overenthusiastic users reporting freezes during setup and mysteriously vanishing files or apps, a low rumble of dissatisfaction could be heard regarding battery life. One Redditor reported a markedly decreased time between charges while another chimed in with similar woes. The culprit, according to a support article, could be a compatibility issue with a bunch of Intel Display Audio drivers that can end up sending CPU usage skyrocketing and battery life plummeting. As such, Microsoft has now put a block on afflicted machines being offered the Windows 10 update, although users can push things through if they really want to. A particularly stunning bit of interface design means that clicking "Confirm" on the warning screen will actually cause the update to install regardless. Only specific versions of the driver are affected (intcDaud.sys, versions 10.25.0.3-10.25.0.8), and Intel has suggested that users running on its sixth-generation (Skylake) chippery update to version 10.25.0.10 of its driver (which is bundled up in 24.20.100.6286 of the graphics driver). For its part, Microsoft recommended that affected users hang fire on manually upgrading Windows 10 until the new drivers make an appearance in the update unless customers are happy to get Intel's latest and greatest on their systems by themselves. Microsoft released the October 2018 Update with a known Task Manager bug; fix coming soon Unfortunately, the public release of the update contained a Task Manager bug that the company has known about for 2 weeks. The bug in question causes Task Manager to incorrectly report CPU usage, something the company was aware of back when it released Build 17763 to the Fast ring. Since then, the same build was flighted to the Slow ring and eventually released to the public, as Microsoft decided to skip the Release Preview ring this time around. The bug seems to have slipped through, however, as a user on Reddit noted. Task Manager is still showing CPU usage numbers that are understated. The new Task Manager in the October 2018 Update does also receive a few new features. Namely, power usage and power trend. The former will now give you an idea of how much power is consumed by a given process, while the latter will, as the name suggests, indicate the long-term trend of the same. A fix is, however, said to be in the works and could be released along other hotfixes as part of the cumulative update planned for this month's Patch Tuesday, coinciding with 9 October. I don't believe the FOD has been updated for WSUS/SUP.
