Casio FX-ES emulator

Hello All,

 

Our maths department use an old (circa 2007) Casio FX-ES Emulator.

I can’t seem to get it to work without the users being privileged users (Local Admin). There use to be a habit here of making everyone privileged user so I don't think this ever worked without.

 

The software requires a command line argument to tell it which calculator to open however this argument is not used unless the user is a privileged user. (Other software is using arguments correctly for non-privileged users)

I’ve tried giving non privileged users access to the Command prompt, Registry & C drive none of which make a difference.

I’ve also tried creating my own shortcuts, bat files & VBScripts none of which cause the argument to be used for a non-privileged user (But work fine for privileged).

 

Does anyone successful use this software without giving privileged user status?

Does anyone have any ideas as to why the argument is not being used or a potential fix?

I assume it may be installed in "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)", if so we had an issue with similar software and in the end we installed it to c:\apps\appname and all the problems went away - a pain but it sorted it

Which version of the emulator do you have?

 

I am using v4.00 of the Casio fx-85ES PLUS emulator and it works fine as a standard user.

We have V1.1, I found a trial version of v3.0 and that also works fine with a standard user too.

I don't suppose you know where you got the version 4 copy from?

I think it was Casio themselves, although I'm not 100% sure since our head of maths ordered the licenses.

Bit of a necrobump, but does anybody have a valid method of silently installing this software?

 

Running the .exe with /? lists /L , /S and /v/qn as valid switches..

 

START /WAIT "Casio Emulator" \\path\to\installer.exe /S /v/qn fails silently.

START /WAIT "Casio Emulator" \\path\to\installer.exe /L 1033 /S /v/qn brings up the switches menu as if I'd done /? for some reason, I've tried 1033 and 0 (as 0 is the english lang code once it's installed), both "in quotes" and not. Once this box is closed, it brings up the installer in fully interactive mode (including the language select screen)

 

Running the installer and pulling the files from %TEMP%..

msiexec /i \\path\to\installer.msi /qn

msiexec /i \\path\to\installer.msi /quiet

msiexec /i \\path\to\installer.msi /g 1033 /qn (also /g 0, both "in quotes" and without, and /qn and /quiet)

msiexec /i \\path\to\installer.msi /t \\path\to\1033.MST /qn (1033.MST also pulled from %TEMP%)

 

All of these produce a log file reading:

MSI (s) (##:##) [HH:MM:SS:MiMiMi]: Product: ClassWiz Emulator Subscription for fx570/991EX -- Incorrect EID.

(where ##:## is always 2 hex values and HH:MM:SS:MiMiMi is a timestamp)

just checked our configuration, and we use:

 

ClassWiz Emulator Subscription for fx-83GT X_85GT X Ver.2.01.exe /l"1033" /s /v"/qn ISX_IP=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"

New. We've got the free licenses Casio were offering.

Bizarre! Why on earth does the quotes start after /v?

Nevertheless, that has worked. Thank you!

 

Guess I don't have to use GPO's preferences/ini files section to specify the licensing server this way, which is a plus, too.

We've got V3.0 - an MSI with a transform. Happy to send it over if necessary. I vaguely remember messing with it years ago to get it working silently, can't quite remember what I did though within the transform file! I'm happy for you to take a look and tell me what I did!
