Student Request for filming

Hi,

 

Odd one here - A post 16 student has requested that they be allowed to film areas of the site/day to day life so that they have something to remember the school in years to come. As it would be during the school day, pupils would be present. Where would we stand on allowing this? (I'm leaning towards no but wanted to check)

Where would you stand? On the edge of a cliff . Getting the consents needed for that would be beyond hard work. GDPR nightmare.

Limited filming for a media project, where everyone in-shot is involved in the project? Not a problem.

 

Random person wants to film school inhabitants for their personal use? Nope.

Personal use ... GDPR does not apply, but there is no guarantee how it may be used in the future ... so no!

Thanks folks - Your line of thinking is the same as mine. I think it's an innocent request (As I like that I have photos I took back in my school days) & I know that students take their own/use snapchat clips but it's not something we can sanction

I'd be saying 'No' too, but there's a tinge of sadness in the reply. You are able to treasure your photos, but we're producing a generation that are having their creative skills crushed in so many ways in the school environment, and will never have the same joy of looking back at photos/videos that you do.

My thoughts too. Our school was 50 years old a few years ago and staff put together a presentation of all kinds of pictures etc showing it through the years. I'm guessing that just won't be possible in future.

Yes - We used to post old photos we found around the site stashed in cupboards up on our facebook account which generated lots of interest from the local community, which we can no longer do (& removed)

 

My only thought is allowing the student to take photos of empty rooms/spaces but then I'm not sure how that'll be much use to them (& we have on our website anyhow)
