No Win10 video out drivers for these old laptops

We have a set of Toshiba Satellite Pro C850 2nd gen i3 laptops that we've upgraded to Windows 10. HD 3000 Intel graphics only supported up to Windows 8.

 

Everything works well except when it comes to connecting to a projector/ 2nd screen. Windows 10 complains about missing drivers.

 

Oddly, a few of them, maybe they're slightly different versions of the same model, work fine.

 

We've searched for alternative drivers and I've tried updating the bios from v1.10 to v6.80. There doesn't seem to be any relevant setting in the bios.

 

The model has HDMI out as well as VGA. I'm wondering if there's any other way of getting the signal out.

Might be a odd one. Try installing windows 8.1 graphic drivers.

 

I know I had to install 8.1 drivers on an older laptop to make something work before now.

HD 3000 Intel graphics only supported up to Windows 8.

Microsoft has Windows 10 drivers for the HD 3000 on their update catalog website.

I'm sure I tried that and I got the "incompatible" stop message. I'll look again tho.

The number of drivers I couldn't get from the Windows Update catalogue across our many different old laptops and desktops can be counted on one hand. Oddly, I found a recent Atom powered mini PC I upgraded was the worst for that, but the working drivers were in the Windows.old folder.

 

I know that I've got plenty of HD3000 powered machines working fine on 10.

Despite skepticisms from above this worked like a dream.
