I was using SIMS for the first time in ages this week and I wanted to design a report with UPN or Admission Number on it but neither were available (the only unique id I could see in the Registration tree was ULN). Focus of my report was Student.

I was on the clock so I found a workaround and didn't have time to investigate, but I'm curious if this was a permissions issue (although that would be weird as I had access to loads of more sensitive data).

Are these fields still available for reports? Whereabouts in the tree are they?

Cheers

It’s by design as this number is not to be used for identifying pupils internally. Government guidelines

This number being UPN? Which is fine, but what about admission number? That's my preferred UID anyway as every kid has one and it never changes. Provided of course that you can still get it on an assessment marksheet because the admission number column was blank there and I was having to rely instead on....UPNs which are there if you export "formatted" marksheets.

If the admission number is blank on marksheets then it sounds like you don't have permissions to see that data. The lack of permissions would also have the effect of hiding the field from you in the reporting engine. If you had full permissions this is what fields should be available to you

But we still have a use for reporting on these fields. For example, the FFT KS4 Upload requires UPN numbers. So does Key to Success.

Capita are providing a database solution and should not be policing what schools do with their data, that's down school policy (something Capita are conveniently keen to reinforce with this data breach incident based on the scary pop-up boxes?).

I think what Phil was trying to say is you need a specific permission in SIMS to see this fields as it isn't available for the typical member of staff, for the reason he states.

Hmmm, it is in there under registration. I was mistaken for the issue with it missing on the additional columns on marksheets, my apologies.
