Most people use GMT based time though and I think that it would be stupid and divisive to demand a change just because they feel like it. I think it comes back to the same old story of another pack of religious nuts looking to chip us back to the stone age bit by bit until they are happy and can feel secure milling their grain by hand and butcher their neighbors their 'gods' will. Sorry if my view is a bit hard line but I get sick of these extreme religious nuts using their views as an excuse to subjugate others to their will. I have no problem with people playing with "god" in their own home, but when they come out telling others what to do because they had a "vision" (read; sniffed too much glue the night before) they can feck right off. "British mariners kept at least one timepiece on GMT in order to calculate their longitude from the Greenwich meridian" when on the seas discovering places. Other countries adopted this at there own free will. just like people do now with other things they like.

Both the mosque and the city itself are strictly off limits to non-Muslims. How about that for segregation? Can you imagine telling muslims they were not allowed to visit a place just because they were non Christian?

The scientific community most certainly use UTC - and via this, GPS uses it. It doesn't matter that they are pretty much the same thing (well, they could be out by upto 0.9s as GMT GMT could be referring to UTC or UT1).
cookie_monster Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Just had a nosey on Wiki (yes i know) English speakers and French speakers each wanted the initials of their respective languages' terms to be used internationally: "CUT" for "coordinated universal time" and "TUC" for "temps universel coordonné". This resulted in the final compromise of using "UTC All i can say is bloody typical :-)
