DalekSec Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 More than likely a simple fix but i can't get my head around it! I'm a noob atm at this. Have done 6 switches so far the same way all worked fine and this wont..... Have Putty'd into the switch and pointed it to a TFTP server to download the the FW (YA_15_18_0013.swi, not the latest but need this to jump to the next highest etc.) Currently on YA.15.17.009. Once it's download i go to restart, restart it comes back up and it's still on the older version... I've tried the next big version up YA_16_03_007 and the latest YA_16_06_0006 and they do the same. I've also tried a factory reset and still no luck.... Anything else i could try?
Steve21 Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Depending on the exact model some need the zip's expanded before it'll accept it even though it lets you pick them zipped still as we had that before. Also are you updating the secondary image first or are you trying to do straight to primary? Other option would be to do a direct USB flash if not (Assuming this is the newer models with it?) Steve 1
DalekSec Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 The other switches i did are the same model and they worked fine with the .swi, When it reboots it says its on the secondary image, does it move over to the primary once rebooted? It doesnt have a USB port on it, it has a micro usb one for the console but thats it.
Steve21 Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 The secondary image isn't booted to by default unless you changed the boot order. It's generally the one you update first to test a new firmware before putting it to primary. If you run show flash (in config mode) what's it show? Steve 1

Steve21 Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 If you want to swap back to primary (which it should always be unless you changed it or are using stacks etc) boot set-default flash primary (If you aren't sure why it was changed etc you could just upgrade secondary firmware and leave it be but you'll have same issue anytime you upgrade ) And when you're doing the flash upgrades you can specify primary/secondary to update other slots, as mentioned generally you do a secondary upgrade, make it manual reboot to secondary to test, then do primary if all is well Steve 1

The way you would normally have it is that you have the version you are using on Primary and the older version on Secondary as backup. you could of course have the same on both if you were worried about corruption but I don't think we have ever seen that here and we have at least 200 2650's not t mention another 500+ other HP switches. Sometimes it is good to have a known good working version jus incase there is an unknown bug with a later version. When we update HPs which we normally do via IMC now. But manually we would copy primary to secondary i.e. copy the version the switch has just been running on to secondary. Then copy the newer version direct to primary. copy tftp flash [tftp server ip address] [filename] primary. Edited July 31, 2018 by Davit2005
