Clevertouch_Rob Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 There's a dreadful one on the A21 near us. I have had to stop completely as traffic thunders down the dual carriageway and I was unable to merge in. Sooner or later there's going to be an accident as there is virtually no run off to give you time. If the worst comes to the worst, and if it is an option, you would have to head slowly onto the hard shoulder. Where you know there is a very short slip road, all you can do is drive extremely slowly down it until you can see a gap to join the traffic what part of the A21 is that?
elsiegee40 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 what part of the A21 is that? On the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells.
Clevertouch_Rob Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 On the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells. Sounds familar
Fazza Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 If you buy the right brand of car you can get up to around 100mph on the slip road and then pull straight out into the third lane, which is reserved for drivers of your brand and other luxury brands. All other drivers must watch out for you and allow you space to do this. It's the law. Are they the ones where the indicators dont work/function?
mikeprice Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Are they the ones where the indicators dont work/function? No - these are the ones that come with a special driving license/Road Tax It allows the car to be driven 2 inches from the back of the car in front and stay in the outside lane at all times unless the car in front is going at an annoying speed in which case the car is allowed to overtake using which ever lane is convenient Hence they do not need indicators - they are allowed to just do it - all parts of the car function perfectly at all times - especially the driver It seems to come mostly with expensive German cars
Quatermass Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 Not forgetting, of course, those who belt down slip roads expecting there to be a magical gap in the traffic at the end - had that happen a couple of times at one near here - a tad trouser-filling when you're on the dual and some **** nearly drives into your passenger side... 1
Smee Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 as a matter of interest a lot of LGV's from the uk are limited to the maximum speed that they can drive., Tescos, Sainsburys to name just a couple are limited to 56mph and if I remember right Asda are 52mph. When approaching a sliproad onto the carriage way that they are already on, a lot of UK lgv drivers will move over if at all possible but you have to remember that not many cars in the outer lanes will move over to allow the lorry to do so. Also don't forget that that's a lot of vehicle weight and its stopping distance will differ greatly than that of a car. I've seen the cab camera footage from an LGV vehicle and can confirm that some drivers are muppets no matter what brand of car they drive.
arwen Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 If you know your highway code then it is simple. Read the road markings. Dashed lines across the junction mean the minor road (slip road) gives way to the main road. No markings means its a "merge in turn" style junction. Be thankful you even have slip roads. Many of the roads joining the A90 and A92 up here (two main trunk roads) are barely more than right angled turns! Google maps
mikeprice Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 Yeah - there are some like that on the A55 I used to live in a small village there and first thing in the morning could be a bit hairy
