I am looking for the SIMS Training Datasets such as Green Abby and if they are still available. I can't seem to find them anywhere on the Capita My Account website. Was wondering if maybe someone could provide me with a link to the page I need, or some kind of article number?

 

Or is this a case of I need to contact Capita Service Desk?

They are not normally available to the end user, only third party support units would have them.

 

If you’re a third party, contact your account manager, if you’re a school try your support team or use real data.

 

I always used to use a copy of the live data for testing as the training data wouldn’t have much configured, so wouldn’t normally fit a training scenario without some work.

How does using real data for testing/training fit in with GDPR? The data won't be being used for the purpose it was collected.

Suspect the argument would be your support unit should be testing for you, its what you pay them for, so you shouldn't be doing it. As for training, you should sending staff on (official) training course rather then let them wander around a (test) system blindly. The other argue would be like @vikpaw said, training data will be configured differently so it wouldn't be that useful.

 

Ideally you want a massive pseudonymization button.

Well that depends on your privacy notice. If you have 'catch all' statements surrounding this data then it should not be a problem.

 

the data will be used in school to; raise standards, performance management, school development, self evaluation, performance development, etc.....

 

Staff training, if that's what the offline version of the data is for, will be covered somewhere in the long list above.

 

Edit> Having said that, its not the best way to do things as people to do get loose and fast with training data.

The point with 'real' training data is that it's recognisable to the staff and contains all 'local' variations and config. It's just as easy to train on real live data, with caveats, and potentially the need to delete / undo things.

 

In a clone, it's the same testing that you would have done but it's safe to add a behaviour incident or enter attendance marks and the dataset will be deleted post training. It's only for internal use.

 

If the GDPR data usage argument holds for training data, it would hold for live data surely, and you should not train on live data either. I think a catch-all statement is useful.

Pseudonymisation would be good. Do we expect support companies to have this button when they take our data to check problems and create fixes? I think for most cases it wouldn't hinder the solution process and would be comforting to know.

As long as permissions are applied then staff would have the right to see relevant data. Quite often in training sessions permissions are elevated which would be a serious GDPR issue. I support the argument to use real data as it makes everything much more meaningful. If the training is about using data then even more reason to use real data.
