ordeology Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Hi, We currently use Pcounter and Biostore biometrics for authentication on a range of Konica and Ricoh MFD's, the Konica's use the Biostore ID points and PCounter embded and the Ricoh's use the old AIT XPR Gateway setup which is just horrible and clunky. I find Pcounter quite an archaic product we are I belive on the latest release, and we have had some lets interesting support issues which have left me fed up with Pcounter. I'm quite impressed by Papercut and think it has a lot going for it. I would like to know what other people think and what their experience has been with Papercut or with PCounter. I have also been advised to drop the biometric authentication as that would bring the cost down significantly for moving to Papercut. Do you use biometrics for authentication or do you use other methods? Such AD logins or ID cards.

Never had any issues with it and it does everything we want it to do. 1
howartp Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Switched PCounter to Papercut 3 years ago with last copier lease. Just renewed it for 3 years on new lease. Mifare for everyone since last September - previously students used 12 digit PIN set by us. (PIN was loginnumber and DOB together, which sufficiently limited the number of attempted logins by friends) Peter 1

Big_Ted Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 i suspect you can keep using biometrics with papercut but depending on how the readers connected to pcounter (network?) they may need some tweaking to work with papercut. Biostore know a lot about papercut so have a chat with them. And yeah, papercut is pretty good

We do know that biometrics work with papercut is just whether we want to keep paying for it or not. And seeing how other schools get round without biometrics for print release in particular for students.

It's not perfect, currently we can't limit the photocopying users can do. If you use ID/barcodes the cost will drop a lot. The biometrics are not cheap when you add each one + support costs.
